A Bit of This 'n That
It rained today. A lot. Like downpours...multiple times. So on my way home, I said a little prayer, "Dear God, please create a miracle and let there be NO water in my basement." And behold, God answered and said, "oh, okay." Sweet! No water as of 7pm. Yay! Thank you God.
Speaking of rain, it was just a downpour on my way home from work today. First, I brilliantly stepped in a large puddle with my ballet flats when I got out at Walmart. Thankfully, I found a close spot, but I still got wet. And of course I was wearing glasses, so by the time I got into the store, I couldn't see because of all the drops. I went to wipe them off and all it did was smear...not dry. Grr. On the drive back, the rain was coming down so hard that I had to turn my wipers on the spastic setting - going so fast you barely see them. I have two settings on this car...the calm speed and the spastic speed. I feel like I'm being judged when I use the spastic settting, but it was definately called for today. Especially when passing the giant semis. It did remind me of Gretta the Jetta though. At then end of her time with me, her wiper engine kind of gave out and just didn't want to go any faster than "old man shuffle." I honestly couldn't drive safely when it rained with more furver than a spitting. So once again, I am thankful for my "new" Civic with all its working parts. Oh, except for that gas door...I have to do the ghetto opening trick by going through the trunk. Gotta get that fixed!
I think that on Thursday I am going to go into work late and get a massage. Mmmm. That sounds lovely. I think I'll be working later that night, so I'd just be flexing my hours so as not to go into over time. I think that's okay...
I went to IKEA (twice) and upped my collection of their furniture and accessories and am so happy! I spent last weekend working on turning the back room into something beautiful.

Before. Well if you can get around the man in the tux, you can see the crappy green blinds, the flesh colored paint, the crappy ceiling, etc. It just needed some TLC and a little elbow grece. (I really can't find another picture of that room - it was just that dreadful that I couldn't take a photo of it!)
After. Ohhh pretty. Thank you IKEA for the lovely curtains and awesome poppy stickers for my walls. I LOVE it! It has taken a lot of time and work and there is still more to be done, but I am rather happy with where it is now. I've got a great rectangle kitchen table - which is suprisingly MUCH more chi than a circle table, btw.
Next up...Bathroom Renovation. Ahhh!

Bits and Thoughts
Just like it says up there, today I am going to share some of the random thoughts going on up there...
Missing Florida Kids
Why are they always from Florida when the National news gets involved? Originally, I figured it hit the national circuit because the people had money...but did you see this last guy? I don't think that family comes from money. A note to those parental units...it is not okay to go out and party and get drunk OR to get married when your child is missing! What are you people thinking?!? Seriously!
Biggest Loser
I am watching the weigh-in as I write this. Very emotional and very inspirational. I cry nearly every episode. Ron and Mike get me every time. I am so impressed with that young guy. And I thoroughly enjoy that this season they are not "playing the game," but rather helping each other out and supporting the people who need it most. Technically, Ron should have been gone a long time ago, but obviously he is someone who needs to be on the ranch more than most people. I appreciate that the other contestants have not voted him off yet. Props to all of them.
Vegas
Yay. I'm going to Vegas with Emily in April! I really don't care if we do much more than hang out at the pool and sip on some drinks. I just want to get away. And who better to do that with than your best friend. Hopefully, its hot and sunny the entire time!
St Patty's Day
A friend today commented "I think it's cute that the Irish have an entire day to party. Of course, we Germans have an entire month. Talk to me in October." Good point.
Birthdays
I hit 28 a few days ago. Yikes. I did okay for most of the day until I realized there was no big fanfare any more. I'm old(er) and so are my friends and we don't get together and go out with a big bang like we used to. Maybe I just need some new young friends. :) Naw. I actually had a very good weekend. I did have to bake my own cake (yellow with chocolate frosting if you're curious) but I figure I know then it is the cake I want and it will taste good. As long as I always get a delicious cake and a few phone calls, birthdays can keep on coming.
Ellie
I have the cutest dog in the world. The cutest. I love her to excess. Just look at her. I thank God everyday that she came into my life. How lucky am I?

That pesky number...
It is Tuesday. Which means that it is Biggest Loser night. Which means I am gearing up by making me some delicious food so I can sit my bum down in front of the TV and watch the two hour show.
I do have to admit that generally I try to stretch or exercise or get on the Eliptical for at least part of the show as to not feel too lazy.
While I love the Biggest Loser, I have to say that I believe it is skewing our view of what is normal and what is not. After a recent doctor's visit, I declared to myself that I need to lose that 10 pounds that have somehow latched themselves to my body. After watching The Biggest Loser, I feel like I should be able to do this in about two weeks.
Why you may ask is that my time frame? The contestants consistently pull numbers like 10, 12, or at least 6. I know I don't have as many extra pounds as they do, so I figure I can't drop 10 in a week, but shouldn't I be able to do it quickly? They do!
Then I remember that they work out like 8-10 hours a day and have Bob or Jillian yelling at them to keep going. I don't.
Maybe I should see if they'd let me visit "the ranch" for just a week. Just one. Its just a pesky little 10 pounds.
Unfortunately, I know that I have to make an effort to eat better and exercise more frequently. And that realistically it will take a couple months at the least. Bah. I want my instant gratification that we have become so accustomed to!
