Excuse me? When?

I was innocently visiting a few blogs this evening when I came across one titled "Yes, Your Honor..." and about had a heart attack right then and there. It had nothing to do with the actual content of that entry, but with the meaning behind those words.

I had been summoned for jury duty.

I received an envelope in the mail sometime in December, before Christmas, informing me of my upcoming duty (it is a privilege). It was dated for sometime in January, but being that it was before Christmas, I couldn't think much past December 25th, let alone into some random date in January. So it got put in the mail pile to deal with later.

And then that post pulled up that piece of information to the forefront of my mind. Crap! It had either past or was coming up! I had a fit and informed my mother and Rob at the same time that I had jury duty but had no idea when. Rob begins telling me the sheriff will come to the house if I don't show up and my mom says, "you need to go sort this out. Bye." Neither are comforting.

Halfway through the pile (which is embarrassingly larger than necessary) an envelope appears with "IMPORTANT: JURY SUMMONS ENCLOSED." Yeah, I am supposed to report 01/20/09, TOMORROW!

I have a small freak out. I didn't remember this. I didn't tell work I wouldn't be there. I didn't fill out the questionaire about my life and return it in the enclosed envelope within 10 days of receiving it. Whats going to happen to me??

Just go. That's what I was told. Just show up at the courthouse tomorrow and they'll tell you what you need to know.

Oh wait.

When I first read it, I only saw key words like "01/20/09" and "8:30am" and "be there or the sheriff will come after you." Okay, so that isn't verbatim, but its on there. I didn't read the whole paper like it said. An hour after finding out and freaking out, I grabbed the paper to fully read and ingest what was there. So I actually read instead of skim and find out you are supposed to call the weekend before to get details. Thankfully, this has been a holiday weekend, so I can call Monday evening.

Oh, looky there. They don't need the jurors summoned for 01/20/09. Must be a slow court month. Thank goodness.

Oh, but don't be discouraged. Our services will be requested at a later date.

You Think I'm Kidding

I have a new passion.

It is getting THIS job.

Seriously.

Duties include "sampling a new luxury spa treatment" in addition to snorkeling, checking out the surrounding islands, living in a 3 bedroom beach house, etc. And what do you get paid for doing? Basically blogging.

I'm going to live on Hamilton Island for 6 months and I will dutifully report to you each week how AWESOME it is. :)

So watch out. I'm off to start my application!

Busy Weekend

Ellie was beginning to look like a fuzz ball and the front room was beginning to get to me, so this weekend we remedied that.

We dropped Ellie off at Petsmart for her cut and checked out the surrounding stores since we're not out that way very often. We stopped at Target to look around. At the Hair Cuttery for Rob and then Best Buy for Rob once again (though I can do my fair amount of drooling in there also).

We went home with a clean cut Rob and Ellie (plus a cute little sweater)...

...and a new computer monitor for Rob's computer. Though its more of a GIANT screen!

Once we got home, we realized the current set up was not conducive to this bohemeth screen. The desk it sat on was also atrocious. So we (really I) decided a new desk was in order in a new position so that the computer could also be used as a theater system in addition to Rob's Game Station.

Of course, Rob had to set up his new toy right away. After about 20 minutes of work, he realized that a pixel in the middle of screen was blown. You may scoff at this but once you realize there's a little red dot on the screen, you can't focus on anything else. So back in the box it went.

So this morning, we got up early (with the promise of Dunkin Donuts, anything is possible) and took the monitor back to Best Buy. We also swung by Target and picked up a new desk and a new chair. Of course, they didn't have the same monitor to exchange directly for, so he "had" to upgrade. So now in our front room is a 28" computer monitor on a new desk that is arranged perfectly for us to be able to sit in the comfy IKEA chairs and watch a movie in high definition if it so suits us.

What a weekend. It was just supposed to be the weekend of hair cuts!

Yeah, that good.

On New Year's Eve, Rob and I went over the Hornsby's for a little shindig they were having. In addition to the gobs of food and hoards of alcohol, they also had ROCK BAND set up for the Wii. It was a little bit of a slow start, but the more drinks consumed, the more willing everyone was to try it out.

It took a bit longer for the girls to get into it. And when they did, it took a while for them to catch on (perhaps the number of drinks consumed at that point had something to do with it).

Yeah, apparently colors pose a threat to the talent.

Yeah, it doesn't get better.

It was a fabulous night! Met some new people. Had a GREAT time! Can't wait to do it again soon!

This picture endlessly amuses me...as does the website on a daily basis. Being slightly OCD the mis-spellings grate on my nerves, but I try to ignore that.
